Snow Kitty
see kitty
who loves to go outside
and play
see kitty
paw at the door
trying to get out
see susan
open the door
see kitty
leap through the opening
onto the deck
and stop
still
in his tracks
see kitty
tentatively
reach out one big black paw
and tap
gently
at the white powder covering everything
see kitty
shake the paw
see kitty
hesitate
and then lift the paw
and look at it
see kitty
look up at susan
accusingly
what did you do to my outdoors?
and then tap the ground again
see kitty
suddenly crouch
eyes big
ears flat
and then leap
stretching to full length
and twisting in the air
trying to catch
the bits of white that are landing
all around
see kitty
then shake all four paws
not sure if he likes the wet
but certain he is going
to catch the flakes
if it takes all night
The curiosity of an over-curious cat meets snow. He spent what seemed
like hours playing on the deck. Leaping. Twisting. Turning. Trying to
catch the snow and eat it. Every winter the first part of this scene was
replayed in similar fashion. The innocence of that first time, though,
was never quite duplicated.
In memory of Onyx, ever the curious one
