Kitty and the Highway Patrolman
see kitty
riding in the car
which he doesn't really mind
heading to Colorado
in a snow storm
see susan
waiting
and waiting
and waiting
for kitty to arrive
see neal
driving 35 mph
on the interstate
see kitty
asleep
in his lap
see them reach omaha
120 miles in 4 hours
see a fiero
in the ditch
silly fiero
see neal
stop to help
because he always thought
susan was silly
for driving her fiero in Colorado
when it snows
see neal
roll down the window
to talk to the nice highway patrolman
who was already helping the fiero
get out of the ditch
see the nice patrolman
lean over to the window
just to talk
see kitty
pop-up
"meow!!"
right in the patrolman's face
see the patrolman jump
and nearly fall
into the ditch
see the surprised patrolman pet kitty
"nice kitty"
see the skeptical patrolman ask
"he's ok in the car?"
see kitty talk again
then curl back up
for a nap
bored kitty
***much later**
see susan
still waiting
and waiting
and waiting
see a 12 hour trip
take 22 hours
see kitty arrive
see kitty see susan
and jump out of the car
into a 16" snow drift
buried kitty
see susan
dig in the snow
and find kitty
see kitty hug susan
happy, happy, happy kitty
--Susan's first effort at a "See Kitty story"
Onyx was a "hugger". He'd put one paw on either side of my neck and nuzzle.
For the first half of his life, my job took me back and forth between
Ames, Iowa and Winter Park, Colorado for several months at a time. He
made the trip to Colorado and back countless times with me, this was the
only one not in my car. As far as Onyx was concerned, home was simply
where "Mom" was.
