Letter 7 Ethan
September 27, 1999
Hi Sue,
I just wanted to write you to tell you about my new home. Even though I am
real happy in my new home, I miss you very much. I live in this townhouse
now with lots of big windows. It even has a downstairs just for us cats to
hang out. I guess in the cold weather my new Mom & Dad will want to come
down to light a fire in the fireplace. It might be kind of cozy.
I have a sister cat named Checker. She is BIG and all black and white.
She was hissing at me when I first moved in, but now she tolerates me. I
try to play with her, but she ignores me. I run and jump on her back, but
she just keeps on walking. She looks at me like I'm crazy. I guess she's
not used to having a playmate. Her brother cat, Andy, that lived there
before me was very old (18 years) and he never played with her. I'll just
have to teach her how. At least she lets me lay by her on my Mom's bed.
My Mom loves me a lot already. I've got her wrapped around my finger. She
takes me in the van everywhere. We are going on a trip to Connecticut next
week. I like laying on her neck while she's driving, but I don't think she
will let me. I guess I'll have to lay on top of the cooler between Mom &
Dad. They make it comfy for me with a blanket. They even have toys in the
van for me. My Dad thinks I'm spoiled already. I can't get away with
anything with him.
I go to bed every night with my Mom. When my Dad comes in, I try hiding
under the bed until he goes to sleep and then sneak back up with my Mom,
but now he knows my secret and I have to go into the other bedroom until
morning. I guess it's not so bad..I have a whole bed to myself. They
call it a cat room. I have cats on the wallpaper, on the window shades,
and cat things on the wall and a cat blanket. I even have a computer in
there with my picture on the screensaver. When my Mom works on the
computer, I like laying right in front of her while she is working.
Sometimes I play with the pointer on the screen.
My Mom has taken so many pictures of me already..almost as many as she
takes of her grandchildren. They live in Texas. I haven't met them yet,
but I know the 4-year old loves cats. I might let him hold me. If I lay
real nice while my Mom combs me and when she gives me a bath, then she
gives me tuna as a treat! Yum. I love tuna, but she only gives me a
little bit. I think they are taking me to the Vet at the end of October.
I wonder what for? I don't like the Vet. I'll send you another picture at
Christmas.
Update October 22, 1999:
Just wanted to give you a little update. We did
our trip to Connecticut. We traveled about 2,200 miles altogether. I
guess I'm a real gypsy now. My Mom said that it is very important that I
like to go in the van because they are going to travel a lot when they
retire. I had my own seat and I saw all the leaves changing colors while
we were driving. My sister, Siobhan, has a great big house in Connecticut.
I had to hide from her 2 dogs though. They are hunting dogs and my Mom was
afraid they might hurt me, so I stayed upstairs. They brought me down when
the dogs were outside. My sister says that I look like a little prince
sitting in my seat. She also says that I am spoiled already.
Love,
Ethan (Stanley)
P.S.
My Mom, Carol, helped me write this..
